FLOOD RISK MANAGEMENT PLANS FOR RIVER BASIN AREAS OF WEST, NORTH AND EAST PELOPONNESE AND OF CRETE (4 ASSESSMENTS)

In the framework of the Flood risk management plans all aspects of flood risk management focusing on prevention, protection, preparedness, including flood forecasts and early warning systems and taking into account the characteristics of the particular river basin or sub-basin were addressed. Flood risk management plans also included the promotion of sustainable land use practices, improvement of water retention as well as the controlled flooding of certain areas in the case of a flood event.

The objective of this assessment is the compliance with the Directive 2007/60/ΕC related to the evaluation and management of the flood risks and more specifically to the completion of activities foreseen in articles 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 of this Directive. For the purpose of this assessment the following main tasks have been completed: Implementation of Flood Hazard Maps, Flood Risk Maps, Management Response Plan for Floods, Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment and Public Consultation of the Management Plan.

The project implemented on behalf of the National Fleet Fund of the Ministry of National Defense of Greece, is divided in sections and subprojects as follows:

Elaboration of a Dystrophic Crisis Management Plan of the “PAPAS” Lagoon (Section1)

Elaboration of a Rational Fishing Exploitation Plan of the “PAPAS” Lagoon (Section 2)

Consulting Services for the implementation of Articles 5,7,8,9,10 and 13 of Law 57 (I) / 2008 on the management of bathing water- Contract No: 4/2010 (NRM15)

This study concerns the implementation of the necessary actions for the compliance of Cyprus with the provisions of Articles 5, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 13 of Law 57 (I) / 2008 on the Management of the Quality of Bathing Water (respectively Articles 4 , 6, 7, 9 & 12 of the Directive 2006/7/EC) related to the following:

Evaluation of the quality of bathing waters

Establishment of bathing waters profiles

Management measures in exceptional circumstances

Risks of cyanobacteria, macroalgae and / or marine phytoplankton

Visual inspection of bathing waters

Public participation

Integrated Water Monitoring Program and related databases that support the implementation of the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC in Cyprus. Contract No. 45/2005 (NRM 9)

The Convention aims to provide support to the MANRE of Cyprus to meet its commitments and requirements arising from the provisions of Directive 2000/60 and in particular the management, monitoring, supervision and evaluation of Contracts A and C:

· Contract A: The supply contract will provide the Contracting Authority with the necessary equipment (sampling and analysis equipment, computer equipment and software, including servers to support Geographical Information System (GIS).

· Contract C: The purpose of the Convention is to provide services related to the creation of an Integrated Water Monitoring Program and integrated databases to facilitate the implementation of the WFD in Cyprus

PROVISION OF CONSULTING SERVICES FOR THE PREPARATION OF STRATEGIC WATER MANAGEMENT PLAN IN HYDROLOGIC REGION 8 OF CYPRUS RIVER BASIN DISTRICT:Contract No. DITP 20/2011 (NRM 8)

The project was implemented in the context of the implementation of the Project 1G-MED08-515/WATERinCORE of the WDD and included the following subjects:

1   Informing and motivation of the Cyprus HR8 stakeholders on the Water Strategic Plan of the district, which was prepared by WDD.

2.  Conducting social dialogue on water management of HR8 and preparation of a cooperation Protocol with stakeholders.

3. Evaluation of the opinion survey on the water management of HR8.

4. Development of the Water Action Plan for HR8.

IMPLEMENTATION OF WATER MANAGEMENT PLANS FOR EASTERN MACEDONIA AND THRACE WATER DISTRICTS (WD) IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF DIRECTIVE 2000/60/EC, PURSUANT N.3199/2003 and Decree 51/2007 (NRM 7)

IMPLEMENTATION OF WATER MANAGEMENT PLANS FOR EASTERN MACEDONIA AND THRACE WATER DISTRICTS (WD) IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF DIRECTIVE 2000/60/EC, PURSUANT N.3199/2003 and Decree 51/2007 (NRM 7)

The object of the project is as follows:

a) Preparation of Management Plans for Es. Macedonia and Thrace WDs, which will contain all the information specified in Article 13 and Annex VII of Directive 2000/60/EC

b) Drafting of a Program of Measures, basic and supplementary as provided for in Article 11 and Annex VI of Directive 2000/60/EC on the protection and restoration of water resources in the study area in order to achieve environmental objectives, as set out in Article 4 of Directive 2000/60/EC and Article 4 of Presidential Decree 51/2007.

c) Implementation of a Strategy Study Environmental Impact Assessment [SEA]

d) Public information and public consultation on the preliminary Management Plans [Drafts Management] six months before their completion, in accordance with Article 14 of Directive 2000/60/EC and Article 15 of Presidential Decree 51/2007.

e) Check and update reports on the implementation of Articles 3,5,6 and 8 and Annex IV of Directive 2000/60 /EC, which have been submitted to the EU and include, inter alia, the analysis of anthropogenic pressures and their impacts and monitoring programs, the economic analysis of water use, the register of protected areas, description of types of water bodies, etc.

f) Final identification of heavily modified and artificial water bodies in the study area, as well as "exemptions" from achieving the environmental objectives of Article 4 of Directive 2000/60/EC and Article 4 of Presidential Decree 51/2007.

g) Full coverage of obligations in relation to reporting and other elements in the EU on Management Plans in accordance with the standards laid down by the European Environment Agency.

h) Implementation of a water scarcity and drought Plan for each Water District of the study area, based on the main principles of preventive planning.
