 The New Railway Line of Thessaloniki - Amphipolis - Nea Karvali is being built with the aim of increasing the freight capacity of the network, enchancing the role of Kavala Commercial Port (New Karvali), developing combined commercial transport, upgrading the railway connection with Bulgaria and Turkey, and ensuring the interoperability of the railway corridor.

It is a single railway line, electrified, 174 km long with a design speed of 160-200 km/h.

It includes a vertical road network with a total length of 25 km and a side road network and tunnel roads with a total length of 121 km. It also includes 10 Railway Stations, 30 railway bridges, 23 tunnels with a total length of 22 km and 71 intechanges.
